Former WiganAtheltic attacker Nick Powell has been ruled out of the English Championship clash between Stoke City and Bournemouth this weekend.

Powell was ruled out of the game by Stoke City boss Michael O’Neill during his pre-match presser ahead of theBournemouth clash at the Vitality Stadium. The former Wigan Athletic player has been ruled out of the game as a result of a groin injury meaning that he has played his last game for Stoke City this season.

PORTSMOUTH WANT TO SIGN EX-LIVERPOOL STARLET

Former Liverpool youngster, George Johnston, who is currently on loan at Wigan Athletic is currently attracting a lot of interest from League One outfits Portsmouth and Ipswich Town who both want to snap up the young player ahead of the upcoming season. Football Insider, the source of the report, also added that Wigan would be more than willing to keep hold of the player who has won the hearts of the fan and everyone at the club since sealing his loan move there.

The 22-year-old decided that it was only a good decision for him to leave his parent club, Dutch heavyweights Feyenoord and seal a move to Wigan in a bid to get more game time and focus on taking up more games as he looks to rediscover his form.

MATCH REPORT: PETERBOROUGH 2 – 1 WIGAN ATHLETIC

Peterborough secured a 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic thanks to two late goals from striker Johnson Clarke-Harris. The win made it a sixth on the bounce for Peterborough who extended their lead at the top of the League One table. Aasgaard was the scorer for Wigan who opened the scoring after 72 minutes of football and wasted chances.

Wigan always knocked at the Peterborough door and kept looking for a breakthrough as they searched for the opening goal. They spurred a lot of chances but finally broke the deadlock through Aasgaard in the 72nd minute after the striker latched the ball into the back of the net following a brilliant team move by the visitors.

Spanish investors prepared to buy Wigan Athletic even if they are relegated

Wigan Athletic’s Spanish bidders are prepared to stay patient in their bid to take control of the club. The Greater Manchester outfit were one of the in-form teams during the backend of the 2019/2020 Championship season, but were still relegated after the final matchday due to the 12-point deduction for entering administration.

Their return to League One has been far from fruitful after the exodus of key players over the summer and they are currently languishing at the bottom of the table with just eight points, five adrift of safety. The Spanish investors placed their bid to buy Wigan more than two months ago, but the EFL have yet to give the green light for them to takeover. (more…)

WIGAN ATHLETIC ARE HAVING A BIG WEEK AT THEIR HANDS

The club have a total number of seven players who will be out of contract in the next week, and three of those seven have already sealed moves away from the club. The club’s administrators are still currently in the hunt for prospective buyers as the club has been put up for sale, but it still does not hinder the departures that have already taken place, and the ones that are expected to still happen.


Curtis Tilt who was formerly on loan from Rotherham and was joined on the list of loaned-in arrivals by Matty Palmer who came from Swindon Town, and Darnell Johnson who spent his own loan stint at the club after sealing a move from Premier League side Leicester City have all returned to their respective parent clubs as their deals already expired since on the 4th of January. WIGAN TO CONTINUE RECENT LEAGUE REVIVAL?

League One club Wigan Athletic have been in the relegation zone for the majority of this season as they have paid the price for a poor start to the season until the last two games. Wigan Athletic have shown signs of revival in the last two games against Sunderland and Accrington Stanley in the third tier of club football in England.Wigan Athletic would be hoping to continue that revival ahead of the home clash with Rochdale. A win over Rochdale will make it three victories on the trot for the former FA Cup champions who suffered relegation from the English Championship at the end of the last campaign.


The two wins recorded from the last two games have taken Wigan Athletic closer to the places outside the relegation zone. As things stand, Wigan Athletic arenow two points away from final safe place on the league standings after the Latics recorded six points from the last two games. Wigan Athletic are second from bottom on the league table with 14 points from 16 games, while Swindon Town, who occupy the last safe place have played one game more than the Latics with two more points.

Spanish Investors Can Take Over Wigan Athletic

Money is very important for any of the sports clubs for the maintenance of their team. Thus a Spanish investor wants to take over Wigan Athletic and is waiting for approval from the authorities of the English Premier League. In this process, they are getting help from the former boss of the team, Roberto Martinez. He helped Wigan Athletic to win the FA Cup beating Manchester City in 2013.


The day has been written with golden letters in the history of the club. He has initiated the talks with the club from the investors and is helping them to decide the strategy to take over the league one club. After his honeymoon with Wigan Athletic, Martinez went to Everton and from there he went to be the coach of the Belgium national team. But he still had a place in his heart for Wigan and that has paid off for the League One club having an opportunity to have investors for them.

Balogun leaves message for Brighton and Wigan Athletic on his social media

Nigerian footballer Leon Balogun has left Wigan Athletic by leaving a heartfelt message for the club as well as for Brighton. He joined the Brighton and Hove from the Bundesliga side Mainz 05 for a two year deal. But in the club he was only given less playing time as he was behind Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy in the regular teamand he has only played in eight matches for the club.


Later he decided to join Wigan Athletic for a six-month deal on January and the deal was expected to end by June. But with the advent of coronavirus, the deal has been extended till the end of the current season. The player was able to contribute to the team and has played for 11 matches for the club. But the club still was relegated to the third tier of the English football.

Paul Cook assures Wigan fans that club will fight till the end

Wigan Athletic manager Paul Cook has assured the supporters that his players will fight for their Championship status till the end despite entering administration. The Latics’ hierarchy recently took the surprise decision to fall into administration and that sees the club facing a 12-point deduction at the end of the campaign.


The club are currently six points ahead of the bottom three, but they will effectively drop six points adrift of safety with the deduction. Wigan have been one of the most in-form sides in the Championship this year, but they were recently outclassed by Brentford, who beat them by a convincing 3-0 scoreline.

Wigan Athletic captain says Kevin de Bruyne is the world’s best midfielder

Wigan Athletic captain Sam Morsy has described Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne as the best midfielder in the world. The Egypt international has not come face-to-face with the Belgian at club level but he has played against him in an international friendly which was scheduled before the 2018 World Cup final.

Based on that experience, he has named De Bruyne as the world’s best midfielder, he told: “Kevin de Bruyne. He’s the best midfielder in the world, in my opinion. He’s a very special player, amazing.” The former Chelsea graduate has been an influential player for the Citizens since joining them from Wolfsburg nearly four years and he is currently entering the peak of his career.
