Wigan appoints Cook

Wigan Athletic has appointed former Portsmouth manager Paul Cook as their new boss for next season. He will be replacing Graham Barrow who was serving on an interim basis.


Paul Cook comes out of a success campaign with Portsmouth where he managed to win the League 2. Despite being offered an interesting package by Portsmouth, he chose to make a move to Wigan Athletic.

He said that he is happy with what he has achieved with Portsmouth, but he feels that this is time for a new challenge. He said that he has enjoyed every moment of the promotion-winning campaign and that he will be cherishing the memories.

Paul Cook believes that there is a great opportunity at Wigan Athletic and that this is a great occasion for home to prove himself. He admitted that he would need time to know the players and the staff, but he is excited to get started in his new job.

Cook said that there is great potential in the Wigan Athletic team and that it is important that the players believe in themselves. He believes that there is a great chance for them to win promotion next season and it is important that they remain focused on the objective.

The new manager said that he had had a good chat with the chairman and he believes that he will get the necessary backing to improve the team. He said that he would first need to assess the team to find out the strength as well as the weakness of each player before identifying transfer target.

Paul Cook said that he is happy with what he has achieved at Portsmouth and he will be looking to doing the same at WiganAthletic. He has urged fans to get behind the team as there are great things coming.
