Wigan Athletic Lose to Sheffield

Posted on January 18, 2023 in WAFC

With the world cup finally coming to an end, normal club football is to resume soon all over the world. However, matches in the EFL are already underway where Wigan faced Sheffield recently. However, it was a bad day at the office for Wigan Athletic as they lost to Sheffield 2-1. The Blades struck first, with Egan thumping home a header from Oliver Norwood’s superb eighth-minute corner.

It was dreadful defending by the hosts’ Wigan Athletic, who had been given wake-up call just moments earlier when goalkeeper Jamie Jones saved from Elliman Ndiaye, with Sander Berge’s follow-up blocked. At the other end, James McClean was unfortunate to see his right-footed volley spin just past Wes Foderingham’s post. But the Blades continued to cause issues with their high press as Wigan’s defenders – under the guidance of new coach Toure, struggled for composure and were ill at ease with their opponents’ measured aggression. 2 WIGAN ATHLETIC PLAYERS WHO SHOULD LEAVE ON LOAN  IN JANUARY

Posted on October 31, 2022 in WAFC

Wigan Athletic have already produced some excellent results in the Championship this season, despite being one of the newly-promoted League One sides. They’ve barely changed the side that claimed the third tier title too and having tinkered only slightly, have managed to put plenty of points on the board already this campaign.

They have a fairly settled squad now and having led the side to promotion and now working to keep them in the second tier, manager Leam Richardson will know exactly what team he wants on a regular basis. That means there are some players who have had to make do with plenty of time on the bench. (more…)

PLAYERS WHO SHOULD BE ON WIGAN ATHLETIC’S TRANSFER RADAR

Posted on September 17, 2022 in WAFC

Since their Championship promotion this season, Wigan have only added one fresh face to their squad during the transfer window. That man, Ryan Nyambe, has yet to feature for the club too and it means that the Latics are largely playing right now with the same first-team squad that won the League One title. However, before the window shuts, boss Leam Richardson should ensure he brings in a few more signings to the DW Stadium to make sure the club are able to stay in the division.

With that in mind then, here are some players who Wigan should be trying to sign before the window shuts.

  1. Joe Ward – Peterborough United

One player the Latics could try and pick up in a bit of a bargain deal is Joe Ward from Peterborough United. With the player having already played plenty of games in both the Championship and League One, he has the knowhow and experience for Wigan to benefit from having him in their squad. He’s versatile, so could fill a few positions of need, and he’s also capable of a few goals in a team too. (more…)

Posted on July 25, 2022 in WAFC

The start of the 2022/23 Championship campaign is just around the corner as Leam Richardson’s men prepare for their return to the second tier. It was an impressive campaign for the Latics who were crowned as League One champions on the last day of the season. But the transfer window has been a relatively quiet one so far for the club, who are yet to bring in anyone of note. Here we look at Wigan Athletic’s three five fixtures in their 2022/23 Championship campaign and try to predict the outcome of each…

Preston North End (H)

As Ryan Lowe enters his first full season as Preston North End boss, he will surely be looking to improve upon last term’s shortcomings. The Lancashire club have already brought in a number of big hitters with players such as Ben Woodburn and Robbie Brady set to play for the Lilywhites next season. Preston North End have already improved a number of positions and could overwhelm the Latics as they may not have fully adjusted to the step up in divisions. (more…)
